Reference solutions: closed loop application example

Automatic optical recognition for the haft collector trommel Ferag AG needed a solution for the supervision and optimisation of different processes in its equipment. To this aim, the Supercomputing Systems AG Vision team (SCS-Vision) developed a computer platform with a digital signal processor (BlackFin) and a Micron's CMOS sensor that is suitable for applications with moving objects and ensures long availability. A uClinux operating system runs the DSP and paralell I/Os (24V), Ethernet or EthernetCat provides direct communication with the control. An open software framework enables the efficient implementation and extension of current and future tasks. This Supercomputing Systems AG machine-vision solution shortens the risk of major financial losses and printing production delays through the automatic recognition of misplaced sheets. Thanks to the reduced cost of production this platform can be used extensively. Furthermore, the ability of this image-processing solution to adapt automatically and without mechanical modifications to different formats enables the reduction of many servo-motors and optical sensors in the construction of the machine.
